Artist Statement
My work is a fresh take on bringing my two great loves together: animation and ceramics. Handbuilt ceramics gives me the ability to bring my 2D design skills into an interactive 4D world. Growing up on a childhood of Cartoon Network, Gamecube, and all things coming from Japan my style brings a mix of everything I love together that feels like a fresh take on nostalgia. The wide-eyed, eclectic look in most of my creations is mostly how I feel from in internal standpoint. People who enjoy my work always have that similar sense of humor so I always appreciate whoever supports me ~ they get it.
I’ve always had a fascination with small creatures, bugs, and familiars. I believe we all need a little companion to keep us company from time to time. Objects don’t have to stay so seperated from our being, every small thing can hold value if you let it. I think that mindset helps us see a little more magic in the world.
Artist Bio
Annika grew up in Orange County but found most of her inspiration overseas in Japan. She went to LCAD majoring in animation. Between art markets and teaching ceramics her time is also spent wandering tidepools, drawing comics and playing old niche video games. Quirky and eclectic her style brings out the whimsical joy of animals and the edginess of humans.
